Sea Change case studies for CABE are online

_MG_5203

I have recently completed a set of case studies for the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE), charting progress with six culture-led regeneration projects funded through the multi-agency Sea Change programme.

With reports from Bexhill, Blackpool, Boscombe, Margate, Jaywick and Southport, the commission provided a fantastic opportunity to travel around the English coast, and observe some exciting schemes ranging from artist-designed beach huts to heritage theme parks.

The project included photography of each resort, plus a detailed report encompassing history, regeneration plans and progress.

Holland Park apartment by Grain Creative

idfx

My photos of Grain Creative's designs for a luxury apartment in Holland Park are featured in the latest issue of idFX. At the heart of the space is a dramatic glass volume - complete with transparent staircase - that allows natural light to flood into the deep-plan building. Other highlights include a seriously sexy semi-detached en-suite bathroom complete with privacy glass that turns opaque at the flick of a switch, and more LED lights than you can shake a stick at.

Langland offices by Jump Studios in FX magazine

fxaug09

This one slipped under the radar. Last month's FX magazine featured my photographs of ad agency Langland's swish new offices in Windsor. Designed by Jump Studios, the interior features some great quirky touches that pay homage to the client's focus on the medical market.

Just back from a quiet week in the beautiful Welsh countryside, near to the tiny university town of Lampeter. Tucked away, high on a hill along a long and bumpy track was our accommodation for the week - the wonderful Y Beudy holiday cottage. For peace and tranquility - with views over fields, sheep and streams - it can't be bettered. And there's nothing nicer than sitting around the cast iron stove at night. And the tomatoes and cucumbers from the owner's greenhouse were delicious - thanks Nuala!

Lampeter is a good base for exploring many areas of south and west Wales, including Aberystwyth, the Brecon Beacons and Pembrokeshire coast. It's just a shame we had awful colds so stayed indoors much of the time - typical when you stop working!

Put on your sunglasses! Here's a sneaky peak of the newly-published Catalogue Three, a catalogue of recent images of work by Project Orange. Curated by fuwagardner, the book is being launched next week at the Whitechapel Gallery. More information will be posted on our fuwagardner blog in the near future.

Ordnance Survey maps provide 100% Inspiration

gSDIM0388

I have been asked to provide content for the forthcoming 100% Inspiration installation at this year's 100% Design London exhibition. Curated by JAM, the installation looks at British sources of inspiration. Members of the 100% Design selection panel have each been asked to come up with something that represents the show to them.

Ordnance Survey Explorer Maps were picked because of their information-rich, highly efficient piece of navigational design - which can also double up as an umbrella in a rainstorm. I think the orange cover is pretty sexy too, and certainly is uplifting on a rainy day. They just need to commission some better photos for the covers!

This particular map was picked for the photo simply because it was at the top of a very big pile, which not only provides a useful way of finding your way from A to B but is also a memory bank of some of the amazing places around the UK that I've visited over recent years. Arundel was the subject of a minibreak earlier this year, with a fantastic walk with the Knit Nurse through Arundel Castle park and along the Arun valley.
